Annual Meeting
It’s that time of year again!
Our annual meeting will be held Saturday, June 3rd at 9 a.m. at the Shady Shores Campground Pavilion.
If you are not able to come to the June meeting, but as a paid member, you would like to formally register your opinion on a specific topic, please feel free to write to the Board and your letter will be read and opinion noted and registered at the meeting.

Channel Status and Funds
Dear Fellow Blind Sodus Bay Improvement Association Members and Constituents;
Our primary objective of the BSBIA is to keep a clear and open channel to Lake Ontario for safe ingress and egress. It has been decided to open the channel each year during the 2nd full week in June, hoping to have the channel ready for the 2nd weekend of the month.
This year we are scheduling the channel to be open for the season the weekend of June 9th, 2017. The channel should be usable by the week of June 11th as long as no major storms are forecasted.
This was decided so as to avoid the late May, early June winds and storms that partially or completely close it back up, causing us to reopen the channel a second and possibly third time during the summer months.
We are going to be using Dates Excavation again this year as he is the most experienced and reasonably priced.
That being said, we look forward to seeing or hearing from you at the June 3rd meeting. Please forward your $150 dues, or more if you can afford to, to support our organization ASAP or we will not have sufficient funds to open the channel as scheduled.
Special State of Emergency declared along Lake Ontario in Wayne County
Officials in Wayne County have declared a special state of emergency for all Wayne County bays and harbors.
Board of Supervisors Chairman Steven LeRoy and Sheriff Barry Virts pursuant to Executive Law Article 2B declared the special state of emergency for Sodus Bay, Port Bay, East Bay, Blind Sodus Bay, Pultneyville Harbor and Bear Creek Harbor in Wayne County.
Effective Thursday at 12:01 am motorized boat traffic must operate at idle speed only — causing no wake on the county’s bays and harbors. The Wayne County bays and harbors are higher than normal, which has spurred serious flood threats along Lake Ontario.
Both said in a joint press release that “Although recent boat traffic on all the Wayne County bays and harbors has been minimal, increased boat traffic would create a hazardous situation, property damage and shore line erosion.”
Public safety concerns are floating debris and submerged obstructions, which are typically visible, according to the press release.
2017 Dues
BAD NEWS FOLKS. PLAN 2014 THAT THE IJC HAS ADOPTED IS IN EFFECT. HIGHER WATER IN THE SPRING AND LOWER WATER LEVELS IN THE FALL IS NOW WITH US. LAKE ONTARIO IS NOW TWO FEET HIGHER THAN LAST YEAR.
We will attempt to do emergency digs to minimize property damage under the scenario that high water, rain, and high winds are forecasted at the same time. This is the only way that we can prevent damage at a reasonable cost.
Please send in your 2017 dues of $150 as we have limited money for any more emergency digs.
