Barrier Repair Update

September 7, 2021– President Mike Borrelli recently received an email on the progress of engineering the new barrier bar for Blind Sodus Bay.

“The engineers from Barton Loguidice visited the barrier bar last week and I received this from Hanna Quigley at Barton Loguidice :

The site visit went well, and we were able to access the barrier bar with kayaks and canoes. We identified existing vegetation species on the barrier, located mature trees to keep, observed locations and depths of submerged vegetation, and counted salvageable root wads on site.

The site visit was valuable to understand the resources available on site. Mature tree locations will help inform design development for the placement of stone. Identification of plant species will help inform the plant schedules for the design so that we make sure to enhance and build upon existing plant communities.

The 60% design package is underway, and anticipated to be completed by the middle of this month. SEQR will be reviewed by the Wayne County Soil and Water Conservation District at their upcoming board meeting.

Thank you,

Hanna Quigley
